Shelly Fralic

Shelly Fralic has been in the newspaper business for 25 years, most of those working as a reporter and an editor at The Vancouver Sun.

She graduated from the Langara College journalism program in 1980 and worked on several weekly newspapers in B.C. before joining The Vancouver Sun as a sports reporter in 1979.

Her reporting experience has included everything from sports and business to features and general assignment. In the mid-'80's, while working as the special projects editor of the paper, she also wrote a weekly lifestyles column.

In 1990, Ms. Fralic was appointed deputy managing editor of The Vancouver Sun, a position she held until 1999 when she was named Executive Editor. Today she is involved in all aspects of the editorial product, as well as the marketing, promotion and production of the paper. She also writes a weekly column which appears on the Commentary page.

Ms. Fralic has been a sessional instruction at the University of B.C. journalism masters program since its inception in 1998. She is also chair of The Vancouver Sun Children's Fund. Shelly has conducted numerous journalism lectures and workshops throughout her newspaper career. She writes short stories in her personal time.
