Jack Whittaker

Jack was born in the West Kootenays in British Columbia's interior and lived in Castlegar where he completed high school and worked for over five years in the Pulp industry. He left that industry to try his hand at University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Victoria and then a Bachelor of Laws at the University of British Columbia.

He Moved to Osoyoos, B.C. where he has remained since 1975. During that time he was a litigation lawyer practicing criminal, family and general law. He has been on Osoyoos Town Council, an Alternate Director for the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen and from 1988 to 1993 was the Member of Parliament for the riding of Okanagan-Similkameen-Merritt.

While in Parliament he was a member of the Joint Senate-House of Commons Committee on the Scrutiny of Regulations, the Finance Committee and the Public Accounts Committee. He also sat on Legislative Committees dealing with taxation, banking, co-operatives and bankruptcy among others.

In Addition to Chairing the Board of Directors of Osoyoos Credit Union he is Chairperson of Credit Union Central of British Columbia having served for three years as Chair of their Legislative Committee. he has been active with the Canadian Co-operate Association and as Chair of their Public Policy Committee. In 2004 he was elected to the Board of the British Columbia Automobile Association and is a member of their Audit Committee.
